monte cristo

I remember in the eighth grade, my English teacher was ancient. Truly. She was sweet, though. I think her name was Mrs. Crawley... but don't quote me on it. Anyway, it was in her class that I first read an abbreviated version of The Count of Monte Cristo. And I absolutely loved it. In fact, I loved it so much that for a few years thereafter, I would tell others that it was my favorite book.

Tonight we watched the film version of the novel. It was designed to be an outreach, where we invited our friends, watched the film, and then discussed the principles. And I would have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It was great.

And then I think... is it bad to enjoy a book or a film that glorifies revenge?

Anyway, all night I was trying to think of the author's name... it's Alexandre Dumas, of The Three Muskateers fame, which, by the way, is an excellent book. And it's about friendship and bravery and love and well... a bit of revenge.
