shir yedidot (a hebrew wedding song)

A few months ago I was thinking about how each one of us connects with God in a different way. For some people, going up to the mountains and breathing in crisp air makes them feel closer to THE Holy. Others experience sacred intimacy when doing things for their fellow man. Even though it wasn't a category on the neat-and-tightly-packaged "spiritual pathways assessment", I believe that one of the ways I most relate to God is through writing. Of course, writing is really a form of one-sided communication, and I need to couple it with listening (i.e. reading, meditating, spending time in expectant silence) in order to truly relate with Him. After coming to this revelation (the one about connecting with the divine with my pen), I decided that I would try my hat at writing some Psalms. And so below is my first attempt. But these Psalms aren't meant for you (please don't take offense). They're meant for my Heavenly Love. I just thought I'd give you a glimpse of my heart and of how good He's been to me.

Your arms are tight around me -
strength that sustains the universe,
that fashioned clay to life.
I will rest in Your embrace.

The music swells about us -
a melody that is unknown yet enticing,
that beckons me to move.
I will rest in Your embrace.

Your movements gently guide me -
steps that are intimate and pure,
that are perfect yet unrehearsed.
I will rest in Your embrace.

The face of my Groom enthralls me -
eyes that are tender and dangerous,
a beauty that is exquisite and untamed.
I will rest in Your embrace.

The crowd blurs as You spin me -
turns that draw me every time closer,
that cause all else to fade into otherness.
I will rest in Your embrace.

Oh LORD, lead me in this dance of life.
I will rest in Your embrace.
