traditionally untraditional
When taking something back up after a long hiatus (running or blogging, for example) they say it's best to start small. I'm afraid that my writing muscles might have atrophied in their lack of use... so I don't want to demand too much of them. I might get hurt. So we're starting small...A new cafe has made its way onto my "favorite spots in La Plata" list. And today the reason for this cafe's elevated status was confirmed: they played Christmas music in May.
Think back to fourth grade geography. (You might want to get out a globe for this one.) The world is divided up into hemispheres - North and South, and East and West. You still with me? Well, it's the oddest thing, but the seasons in the Northern Hemisphere are completely opposite of the Southern Hemisphere. So while my parents are melting in that hot Oklahoma sun, I've donned a scarf and gloves for all outdoor activity. In Argentina, April showers do not bring May flowers. They just bring more May showers. And every winter here in Argentina my brain plays a little trick on me... I begin to think that Christmas is right around the corner when the weather starts getting cold. It's a cruel trick, really, because I love Christmas and having winter in July only makes me realize that Christmas is still half of a year away. Which brings me back to our cafe. For just a few minutes, I was able to live the dream. It was Christmas in May, and I had appropriately dressed with a scarf.
Christmas... that was the theme of my last blog. Perhaps this re-entry into Blogland was perfectly timed.
