change of plans

It's funny how things work out. It's funny how when something unexpected happens we always say, "It's funny how things work out."

Right now my compaƱeras de aventura are in southern Chile. Torres del Paine, to be exact. They're out having the adventure of a lifetime... carrying too many kilos on their back, avoiding blisters, learning how to light the tricky little stove that screws onto one of those gas canisters. I'm supposed to be there with them. But I'm not.

At the moment, I find myself a little above and to the right of rural Oklahoma. Not quite the majestic Andes. Close. But not quite. :)

But, at the end of the day (which it conveniently is), I'm glad I'm here. And it's not because I have a warm bed or because I don't have to carry everything I own on my back or because I have easy access to a microwave. No. I'm glad I'm here because it's where I need to be. And maybe this is just one of those times in my life where I wanted to be and where I needed to be didn't line up. So the choice was made and the plans were changed.

And it's kind of funny how things have worked out.
