sweet moments.
The past two weeks have been full of them.Hugs at the hospital when I first got here. Breaking down in tears with Dad that first night after leaving Mom at the hospital, repeating, "I'm just so grateful. I'm just so grateful."
Cooking homemade chicken noodle soup for my patients. Trying to care for them like they've done for me my entire life. An entire day of snow. Making a snowman. Or more like a smallish snow-mountain with a scarf and carrot nose. Laughing a lot.
Seeing Dad cry for the first time in my life as we talked about his time in Vietnam. Deciphering ancient family documents. Reading Grandma and Grandpa's love letters. Listening. Listening long and hard, trying to soak it all up and trying to take it all in and trying to impress the moment in my memory so I won't ever forget it.
Playing one-handed speed Scrabble at the kitchen table. Touring a civil war battlefield.
Enjoying childhood stories. Learning about grandparents I never met. Hearing the unedited version of the past. Talking about ambition. Discussing regrets and what we would change. Saying we're proud of each other.
Hugs and saying I love you often and sincerely.
And the undeniable truth is... I've been incredibly blessed.
