a resolution in four acts.
Act One:
In which I'm running in the park, listening to the abridged version of Seven Years in Tibet on my ipod, soaking up every minute of Mr. Smooth British Accent telling the tale of adventure, exploration, and culture-crossing.
Act Two:
In which I ponder these stories of adventure and exploration (I'm now reading one about 19th century explorers in the Amazon), and think about how amazing it would be to actually live an adventure like that, and then write a book about it.
Act Three:
In which I realize that I currently live in a foreign country. And have lived here for the last seven-ish years. Take that, Mr. "I spent a crazy spring break in Mexico and decided to write a book about my adventurous five entire days of interacting with the culture". Not to belittle the authors of that sort of book... a summer in southern France, a weekend get-a-way to Prague, 48 hours at an international airport... they're all adventures. All I'm saying is that I might, in a not-trying-to-toot-my-own-horn sort of way, have an adventure worth telling, too.
Act Four:
In which I resolve to document some of these previously poorly documented years abroad. Let's call them "glimpses"... some from the past, some from the present, some about me, some about culture, some about life, some about laughs. And maybe a bunch of little glimpses will enlighten the view. And maybe, just maybe, I'll be coming to a book-on-tape near you. :)
